Covid-19 Outbreak Not yet Under Control

The soaring number of new Covid-19 cases in Indonesia indicates that the outbreak is not yet under control. WHO considers Indonesia to have not met the requirements for the “new normal”.

Heni, 20, undergoes a temperature check before heading to Jember, East Java, on the Sri Tanjung train at Lempuyangan Station, Yogyakarta, Friday (12/06/2020). The first regular train journey from the station was carried out by requiring all passengers and crew to use face shields and adhere to a number of health protocols. Passengers must show letters that they have passed the Covid-19 rapid test or health certificates and have their temperatures checked to make sure it is below 37.3 degrees Celsius. In addition to buying tickets at around Rp 90,000 per person for a trip from Yogyakarta to Banyuwangi, passengers are also required to take the Covid-19 rapid test at a cost of around Rp 300,000. From Lempuyangan Station, Sri Tanjung train heading for Banyuwangi only transported eight passengers and one other passengers were asked to postpone their trip for failure to show the required documents.
