Bringing Jatiwangi to the Global Stage
Instead of selling it, as most people in the village have done, the siblings have turned the former roof tile factory into an alternative art space. The road to bringing Jatiwangi to the global stage continues to open.
Arief Yudi Rahman, 51, and Ginggi Syarif Hasyim, 46, have rejected the use of their family\'s land in Jatiwangi, Majalengka regency, West Java, for commercial purposes. Instead of selling it, as most people in the village have done, the siblings have turned the former roof tile factory into an alternative art space. The road to bringing Jatiwangi to the global stage continues to open.
"This place should be leased to a garment factory, used as a rental house or minimarket. However, it has become a place of art," said Ginggi jokingly, telling the fate of the 7,000-square-meter plot of land in Kampung Wates, Jatisurah village, Jatiwangi district, Majalengka, West Java, last weekend.
