Possible Ship Parts to Undergo Examination
A joint search and rescue team discovered two parts that may belong to the KM Sinar Bangun vessel at a depth of 490 meters in Lake Toba. The two curved objects that resemble the ship hull were found some 500-1,000 meters from the location where the ship capsized.

Sonar Device Fails to Detect Sunken Ship
The joint SAR team is still struggling to locate the sunken KM Sinar Bangun, which capsized on Lake Toba, despite the use of a sonar device on Friday (22/6/2018). The search on the fifth day has not yielded any results.

Victims Might Be Trapped in Sunken Ferry
New equipment that can detect underwater objects up to a depth of 2,000 meters will be deployed to improve the search and rescue (SAR) efforts in finding the missing victims of the ferry accident in Lake Toba. The lake is more than 500 meters deep.

Condolences for Toba Victims
As reported earlier, around 200 people were said to have been missing, even though North Sumatra Police chief Insp. Gen. Paulus Waterpauw said the number was probably inflated due to redundant reporting. Our mourning and sympathy go out to the victims.

President Calls for Evaluation of All Ferry Services
The President called on Basarnas, the military, the police and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to work together in searching for and rescuing the victims. The government is to provide financial assistance for the victims’ families.
