The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is continuing to monitor La Niña as it grows stronger in Indonesia. The archipelago is likely to see a late dry season because of the weather phenomenon.

The rainfall in Jakarta on New Year’s Day 2020 was the highest in history. Flooding depends on not just heavy rainfall, but also geological and geographical conditions, infrastructure, management and how people react.

At least 24 people died as a result of floods and landslides in several parts of Indonesia, while tens of thousands others were displaced. Indonesia is not yet ready to face extreme rains.
