South Korea's Crisis of Female Directors

The progress of women in Korean cinema has once again hit a winding road. The industry is facing a crisis women directors, especially for big-budget films. The Covid-19 pandemic is one of the causes.

The Korean Film Council (Kofic) released the results of a study on the status of gender equality in the Korean film industry, March 2024. Study This found that there was only one film directed by a female out of 35 Korean blockbuster films throughout 2023.
