Homecoming vehicles queue waiting for their turn to enter the ferry crossing the Merak ferry port, Cilegon, Banten, Thursday (28/4/2022) night.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS โ€” Opening alternative ports for ferries sailing from Sumatra to Java has helped reduce passenger and vehicle density on their return journeys from mudik (exodus) for Idul Fitri 2022. The operation of alternative ports have helped reduce the long queues of vehicles making their mudik return trips at Bakauheni Port in Lampung and Merak Port in Banten.

Budi Setiyadi, the Transportation Ministryโ€™s land transportation director general, said on Monday (9/5/2022) that the condition of mudik return traffic between Bakauheni Port and Merak Port was better than the condition of outbound mudik traffic. He said that the two ports had no long queues of vehicles as of Sunday (8/5).
