Death Sentence for Rape

Sexual violence is becoming more common in recent times. This trend must be stopped.

The West Java High Court on Monday handed down a death sentence to a teacher of an Islamic boarding school in Bandung, West Java, for sexually violating a dozen female students.

The judicial panel, led by Herry Swantoro, upheld an appeal from prosecutors demanding the death penalty for Herry Wirawan, who was previously given a life sentence by the Bandung District Court. The court also told Herry Wirawan to pay Rp 331 million (US$23,000) as compensation for the 12 victims.
