PDRI Responds to National Leadership Crisis
Four years of a war to defend independence (1945-1949), with thousands of lives lost, became a living witness to the heroism of the Indonesian people, most of whom were illiterate.
About 73 years ago on 22 Dec. 1948 in Halaban, a small and serene nagari (district_ in Lima Puluh Koto regency, a very important historical event occurred for the continuation of the Republic of Indonesia: the establishment of the Emergency Government of the Republic of Indonesia (PDRI).
If only the Dutch had realized that the high spirit of anti-colonialism among the colonized was unstoppable, the “country of windmills” would have thought seven times about restoring its colonial system, which had become obsolete at different times throughout the archipelago. Because their awareness was dulled, this small country in Western Europe insisted on taking advantage of the Japanese defeat in World War II.
