An Opportunity to Maintain Diversity

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - The commemoration of the 95th Anniversary of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) should be used as an opportunity for NU and other social organizations to strengthen cooperation in maintaining diversity. Such a cooperation is increasingly needed at the time when the nation is facing various difficult challenges, especially a series of natural disasters in several regions as well as non-natural disasters in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The celebration of NU\'s anniversary was held virtually in Jakarta on Saturday (30/1/2021) and was joined by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo from the Bogor Palace, West Java. Other activities in celebrating the anniversary also included an istigasah (joint prayer) was held on Sunday. In addition, a number of elements of society, including political parties, also celebrated the event. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), for example, also held a virtual discussion titled, Dialogue of the PDI-P’s Nusantara Home, which was opened by PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri.
