Flood Problems Still Unresolved

A number of government plans to reduce flooding in Greater Jakarta have not been completed. Some of the projects were halted. When floods occur again, new plans emerge.

Residents in Puri Citayam Permai 2 housing complex, Rawa Panjang, Bojong Gede, Bogor regency, West Java, make a temporary embankment after flash flooding on Friday (3/1/2020). The flash flood triggered by the collapse of a dike at an irrigation channel at Cibeureum Lake on Wednesday (1/1/2020) killed one of the residents of the housing complex. On the third day after the collapse, the streets at the complex and a number of houses were still inundated.

A number of government plans to reduce flooding in Greater Jakarta have not been completed. Some of the projects were halted. When floods occur again, new plans emerge.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS  โ€”The central government has prepared a number of efforts to prevent flooding in Greater Jakarta. These efforts include building reservoirs in the upstream area, namely the Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam in Bogor regency.
