.

On Jan. 22, US President Donald Trump decided to impose tariffs on washing machines and solar panels, at 50 percent and 30 percent, respectively. Beginning in March, the US again decided to impose high tariffs on imports of all steel and aluminum products.

The decision was followed by an increase in import tariffs on more than 1,300 Chinese products worth about US$50 billion in the following month. The measures were taken because the US considered China to be conducting unfair trade practices against US commodities, resulting in a deficit in the US trade balance with China amounting to $375 billion last year.
