Relations between superpowers the United States and China, which has been disrupted since the emergence of a trade war between the two in 2018, has worsened since the outbreak of Covid-19.

It is no longer a surprise to hear economists and business people say that the global economy is in a sluggish state. That is reality.

Due to the slowdown in global trade, Indonesia’s economic growth estimate has been revised from 5.2 percent to 5 percent this year and from 5.2 percent to 5.1 percent next year.

The world economy, including Indonesia, is slowing. The US economy has also begun to slow down. The Fed estimates that the probability of recession in the US has risen to 35 percent.

Attracting more investment, including from industrial relocation amid a trade war between the United States and China, is no easy feat. Besides improving the appeal for direct investment, Indonesia needs to boost tourism as an alternative source of income amid the sluggish international trade.
