The special committee for the House of Representatives’ right of inquiry on the KPK meet with representatives of Trisakti University’s student council (LKMM) at the Senayan legislative complex, in Jakarta, Wednesday (26/7). During the hearing, the students reminded the lawmakers about the importance of transparency, because citizens are monitoring the inquiry committee’s actions.

It is better to forget about the views shared by a number of members of the House of Representatives (DPR) Inquiry Committee which have raised a discourse on the need for a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The idea of issuing a Perppu on the KPK, which would be intended to weaken the KPK or to dissolve the anticorruption body, will only trigger the people\'s antipathy toward the people\'s representatives, the DPR, and political parties. The motivation of the Inquiry Committee to weaken the KPK has been visible from its efforts to meet with a number of corruption convicts. The committee has gathered information on the weaknesses of the KPK and will use them as its ammunition to weaken the KPK, either through a Perppu or by revising the law on the KPK.
