Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, has again erupted. The height of Mount Marapi’s ash column was soaring, from 250-300 m above its peak in the beginning, to between 800 m and 500 m on Wednesday (11/1/2023).

Mount Sinabung in Karo regency, North Sumatra, erupted again. Volcanic ash from the eruption spread to Stabat, the capital of Langkat regency, North Sumatra, about 80 kilometers northeast of Sinabung.

Merapi has never broken its promise. Not only does it discharge volcanic materials during its eruption but this very active volcano also teaches a lesson in mutual care among people living on its slopes and at its feet.

Sinabung has erupted after one year of inactivity. People have been warned to stay alert but no orders have been given to evacuate.

Despite the status of Mt. Merapi having been increased from normal to caution, there is no need for locals living on its hillside to evacuate as of right now. Those who did have returned to their homes.

The volcanic activities of Mount Agung in Karangasem regency, Bali, has been approaching a critical stage.
