President Joko Widodo stressed the importance of respecting the principles of democracy, international law and human rights in accordance with what is contained in the ASEAN Charter.

The draft Criminal Code bill (RKUHP) is expected to be passed into law at today’s House of Representatives’ plenary session. Some of the bill’s provisions are appropriate, while others are still controversial.

There is no international law provision prohibiting or requiring Indonesia to apply UJ for the trial of HAM violations occurring outside its territory. Indonesia has the freedom to apply UJ or not.
