Despite the travel ban, many people are still trying to go on mudik using a number of tricks in order to escape the police’s checkpoints.

The travel restriction period had been extended because many people planned to go on mudik (exodus) before the initial restriction took effect.

Many people, especially informal workers, have started going home for mudik. In order to anticipate the spread of COVID-19, several regions have established a prevention task force at the village and subdistrict levels.

The government has extended micro-scale public activity restrictions (PPKM) and banned takbiran (group chanting of God is great) to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
