Indonesia has been successfully meeting the challenges of 2022 in terms of the global economy and the G20 presidency. The IMF is confident that Indonesia will continue towards prosperity.

The government has set the deficit in the 2022 draft state budget (RAPBN) at 4.85 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

If in the short term the implementation of VAT on basic goods cannot be carried out, it is very possible that the fiscal deficit cannot be returned to below 3 percent in 2023 as mandated by law.

The government plans to issue new debt amounting to Rp 323.4 trillion in the second quarter of 2021. Expenditure control is considered important to curb the budget deficit and the rising debt-to-GDP ratio.
