The Jakarta High Court has ruled in favor of the General Elections Commission’s (KPU) appeal, overturning the Central Jakarta District Court’s decision to halt all ongoing preparations for the 2024 elections.

The House appreciates the KPU’s response of filing an appeal against the Central Jakarta District Court’s decision as an effort to provide legal certainty in accordance with the Constitution and statutory regulations.

A survey by Litbang Kompas, the research arm of Kompas daily, conducted from 25 January to 4 February 2023, showed the majority of respondents want to vote for legislative candidates directly.

The election organizers have been asked to remain independent so that the redrawing of the electoral districts will provide equal and fair representation for all political parties.

When the pandemic first emerged, community ties grew stronger. However, now that the pandemic is subsiding, society has grown less cohesive.

The political parties appear to be indecisive because they are considering their position in the outcome of the election. Explorations are being carried out as part of efforts to form a party cartel.

The government has only approved the KPU\'s proposal to hold regional head elections (Pilkada) in November 2024.
