Rescuers carry a miner who was saved from a landslide that struck an unlicensed gold mine on Wednesday (2/27/2019) in Bakan village, Lolayan district, Bolaang Mongondouw regency, North Sulawesi. Military and Search and Rescue personnel have rescued 19 miners and recovered four bodies from the landslide, which is believed to have buried up to 60 miners.

BOLAANG MONGONDOW, KOMPAS β€” As of Wednesday evening, 19 miners had been rescued from the rubble in an illegal gold mine in Bolaang Mongondow regency, North Sulawesi.

The bodies of four miners that had died were also retrieved. It is estimated that 37 miners are still trapped alive in the mine. "We rescued the miners using manual excavation tools because there is still a response from miners inside the mine when we call them from outside," the chief of the Bolaang Mongondow search and rescue team, Rusmadi, said when called from Palu city, Central Sulawesi, on Wednesday. He said the search and rescue team of 200 people would work 24 hours to help the miners.
