A woman washes laundry in the Kali Malang on Dec. 26, 2018 in East Teluk Jambe district, Karawang regency, West Java. Many riverbank residents wash clothes and defecate in the river, which is one of the causes of water pollution in the Kali Malang โ€“ the raw water source for providing clean water for Jakartaโ€™s residents.

Several teenagers were seen washing clothes while women were bathing their children. A number of middle-aged men were also observed carrying out similar activities.

This is the scene commonly found from Cikarang to Karawang in West Java along the banks of the West Tarum Canal, or the Kali Malang (Malang River). "I\'ve been bathing in the Kali Malang for a long time," Samsobi, 50, a resident of Wadas village in Karawang regency, said in late December 2018.
