Beware of Active Fault in Java

The Lembang fault, which marks the border between Lembang district, West Bandung regency, and Bandung city, West Java, will have a disastrous impact on the region if there is a land shift.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Recent studies in international scientific journals reveal an active fault line that crosses Java, including along two densely populated areas in the south of Jakarta and in northern Bandung. The study must receive serious attention for mitigating future disasters.

Two key scientific studies were published in January 2019, one by Endra Gunawan and Sri Widiyantoro in the Journal of Geodynamics and another by Mudrik R. Daryono with Danny H. Natadwidjaja, Benjamin Sapiie and Phil Cummins in Tectonophysics.
