The atmosphere at the Kauman Islamic Boarding School in Karangturi village, Lasem district, Rembang regency, Central Java, on Friday (9/3/2018). Religious tolerance has been upheld in Lasem for a hundred years.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS β€” The feeling of insecurity in society causes the distrust of others, which ultimately gives birth to ultraconservative, even extreme, religious behavior. There must be an approach that looks at the Indonesian cultural perception toward social, political and economic situations in order to nurture a moderate and tolerant religious attitude.

This topic was raised in an interfaith dialogue called Religious Life in Indonesia: Reflection and Projection, which was held by the Religious Affairs Ministry in Jakarta on Friday (28/12/2018). Present as participants of the discussion were religious leaders, academics, cultural observers, activists and young content creators on social media.
