Indonesia’s Veddriq Dominates the Fourth Series
Speed climber Veddriq Leonardo was back in top form in Salt Lake City, Utah, the United States, to win his second gold in the fourth series of this year’s IFSC World Cup.
SALT LAKE CITY, MONDAY — After failing to win a medal in the third series of the 2023 IFSC World Cup in Jakarta on 7 May, Indonesian Veddriq Leonardo returned to victory by winning gold in the speed climbing category in Salt Lake City, Utah, the United States, on Sunday or Monday (22/5/2023) Western Indonesian Time. Holding the world speed record at 4.90 seconds, he notched up his time to under 5 seconds twice during the competition.
“The key to Veddriq's success in the Salt Lake City series is he has been focused on training. The main challenge for Indonesian athletes is how to maintain consistency. Our athletes are already performing at a high level. With increasingly fierce competition from other countries, our athletes must continue to spur themselves on to be at their best," Indonesian coach Hendra Basir said on Monday.
