Awaiting the Next Step
Insp. Gen. Teddy Minahasa was sentenced to death for trafficking 5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from West Sumatra to Jakarta.

The public prosecutors discussed after reading the charges against the defendant Teddy Minahasa at the West Jakarta District Court, Thursday (30/3/2023).
Among the defendants, Teddy, who was chief of the West Sumatra police, had the highest rank and was given the heaviest sentence. The other defendants include former Bukittinggi police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Dody Prawiranegara, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Linda who was sentenced to 18 years in prison and former Kalibaru chief in North Jakarta, Comr. Kasranto, who received a 17-year prison sentence.
Although many opinions arose from a human rights perspective regarding capital punishment, the death penalty is well known in Indonesia. The new Criminal Code allows for a 10-year probation period for death convicts.
