Tawaf worship activities around the Kaaba at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Wednesday (3/8/2022.

In a working meeting between the Religious Affairs Ministry and House Commission VIII in Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/2/2023), it was agreed that the average cost of organizing the hajj (BPIH) was Rp 90.5 million per person. Out of that figure, Rp 49.8 million (55.3 percent) of the cost of hajj travel (Bipih) is charged to the pilgrim, while Rp 40.2 million (44.7 percent).

The figure has shifted from the submission of the Religious Affairs Ministry in January 2023. At that time it was proposed that the average total BPIH was Rp 98.89 million. The fee was met from the Bipih, directly borne by the pilgrim of Rp 69.1 million (70 percent) and from the value of the benefits of Rp 29.7 million (30 percent). This proposal triggered a controversy because it was considered too burdensome for pilgrims.
