Defendant Inspector General Teddy Minahasa (second from right) shakes the hands of the public prosecutor after the hearing on the reading of the charges at the West Jakarta District Court, Thursday (2/2/2023).

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The trial of Insp. Gen. Teddy Minahasa should be used as an occasion to step up efforts in the battle against law enforcement officials involved in a drug ring. For this reason, internal supervision must be strengthened at law enforcement agencies using officers who possess integrity.

International supervision should be strengthened because this is not the first time that a high-ranking law enforcement official was found to be involved in the distribution or use of narcotics. This is especially so, considering that money reaching trillions of rupiah is in circulation from this illicit trade.
