Agus Suwignyo's article (Kompas, 10/1/2023), while emphasizing that the mission of higher education in Indonesia is to serve the public, criticizes the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) policy of the nation’s higher education system.

In the initial stage, higher education was pioneered and carried out by members of the community, including professionals and religious leaders. This group of intellectuals has set certain criteria and requirements how to become educators and administrators of higher education.
