Prosecutors Find No Reason to Acquit Richard
Prosecutors have demanded a 12-year prison sentence for Richard Eliezer, despite his status as a justice collaborator, as they had found no reason for acquitting him.
JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Prosecutors demanded on Wednesday (18/1/2023) a sentence of 12 years in prison for Richard Eliezer, a defendant being tried in connection with the premeditated murder of Brig. J, or Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, because he was deemed to have collaborated in the murder of Nofriansyah by acting as an executor. Prosecutors viewed his status as a justice collaborator, a person who cooperates with law enforcement to help solve a crime, as a mitigating factor.
In a separate hearing on the same day at the South Jakarta District Court, the prosecutors read out their sentence demand for another defendant being tried for the same crime, Putri Candrawathi, the wife of former National Police internal affairs (Propam) chief Ferdy Sambo. The prosecutors demanded a sentence of eight years for Putri, who they deemed had helped plan the murder of Brig. J from the couple’s residence in Magelang, Central Java.
