The plenary session of the House of Representatives with the agenda of ratifying the Personal Data Protection Bill (RUU PDP) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (20/9/2022).

JAKARTA, KOMPASโ€” The presence of the Personal Data Protection Law following the passage of its bill into law by the House of Representatives (DPR) in its plenary meeting on Tuesday (20/9/2022) is expected to be capable of overcoming data leaks. After going through a two year debate, this law specifies administrative and criminal sanctions for individuals as well as data handlers in the case of data breaches.

Despite the attempt to make it legally binding for data handlers in government and private institutions, this law is seen as being only strict toward the private sector. For the government, the sanctions stipulated are limited to administrative penalties.
