JAKARTA, KOMPAS β€” The Baribis Fault in the southern part of Jakarta is proven active and the western part of the earthquake lane is in a locked condition, making the southern part of Jakarta vulnerable to earthquakes in the future when the accumulated strain energy is finally released.

The findings were published in the Scientific Reports in Nature journal on Thursday (16/6/2022). Sri Widiyantoro, a professor at the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), is the first author of this scientific report, while P Supendi from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is the second author. Their research also involved a number of other ITB researchers, apart from researchers from the Department of Earth Sciences, the University of Cambridge, and PT Reasuransi Maipark.
