IKN Authority to have Special Powers to Support its Activities

President Jokowi expressed his optimism that the IKN would become a driver of economic growth. For this reason, he encouraged investors to take part in the development of the new capital city.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority is to take over certain powers of the central and regional governments, except for important and strategic national decisions. It is to be given greater powers so that the special authority can be flexible in supporting the preparation, development, relocation and administration of the new capital city.

"All the powers that the IKN needs, whether they belong to the central government, provincial administration, regency or municipal administrations, will be given to the IKN, except for authority over national strategy, which is nondelegable, as well as governmental affairs," the Home Ministry’s director general for the development of regional administrations, Safrizal Z.A., said on Tuesday (22/3/2022) in Jakarta, during a consultative meeting with the public on the issuance of the implementing regulations for Law No. 3/2022 on IKN.
