JAKARTA, KOMPAS — Saminism, or Sedulur Sikep, teaches a way of life that maintains harmony with nature, avoids greed and respects fellow humans. Although more than a century has elapsed, its teachings are still relevant in modern times.

The Samin community originally comprised the followers of Samin Surosentiko, whose real name was Raden Kohar, a farmer from Ploso Kediren village, Blora, Central Java. He lived from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century.
