JAKARTA, KOMPAS – Java and Bali comprise most of the increase in Covid-19 cases that has occurred in Indonesia over the past two weeks. In areas such as Tangerang and Depok, the reported number of daily cases even surpassed the peak of transmission of the Delta variant. Looking at the Delta-fueled second wave last year, a surge in cases outside of Java and Bali is sure to follow.

According to data from the national Covid-19 handling task force, Indonesia recorded 36,057 new cases on Sunday (6/2/2022), the highest daily increase to date. Two weeks ago, the country was reporting less than 3,000 new cases per day. Jakarta, West Java, East Java and Bali have contributed the most to the daily increase.
