State Seeks Death Penalty for Police Officers Accused of Selling Confiscated Drugs
The two police officers facing the possible death penalty are Tuharno and Waryono. They have been accused of masterminding the embezzlement and sale of confiscated drugs.
TANJUNGBALAI, KOMPAS — Following the state’s demand for the death penalty for two police officers and life imprisonment for nine others accused of covering up the confiscation and resale of methamphetamine, the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office is awaiting the defendants’ pleas. Another defendant, who is civilian, is facing a possible 15 years in prison.
The defendants are now being held at the Class IIB Tanjungbalai Penitentiary. A trial to hear the defendants’ pleas is to be held on Wednesday (26/1/2022). "They have been charged with embezzling and selling the confiscated methamphetamine," said Yos Arnold Tarigan, head of the information and legal section of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office, on Thursday (20/1).
