People Asked to Send Aid Directly to Evacuation Sites to Prevent Chaos
Based on data from the Emergency Response Team of the Mt. Semeru eruption, there were 6,022 survivors spread over 115 temporary shelters in Lumajang, Malang and Blitar regencies.
LUMAJANG, KOMPAS — The local government of Lumajang regency, East Java, has asked donors to send aid for the survivors of the Mount Semeru eruption directly to evacuation sites in order to prevent a recurrence of chaos in the distribution of aid in the field.
Lumajang Vice Regent Indah Amperawati appealed to donors to deliver the aid directly to the evacuation sites. “There are a number of people who prefer to send the aid directly to residents’ houses. This creates difficulties in the field," she said at Penanggal Village Hall, Candipuro district, Lumajang on Thursday (9/12/2021).
