JAKARTA, KOMPAS—Comprehensive and urgent overhaul of policing is needed to prevent the recurrence of police violence against citizens, such as the alleged incident that occurred during a student demonstration at the Tangerang Regent's Office. Imposing strict sanctions against police officers who violate the law is part of this reform.

Banten Police chief Insp. Gen. Rudy Heriyanto said on Thursday (14/10/2021) that an investigation by the Banten Police Occupation and Safety (Propam) division found indications that Brig. NP had violated the standard operating procedures while guarding a demonstration at the Tangerang Regent's Office on Wednesday (13/10). "NP will be dealt with firmly in accordance with Polri [National Police] internal regulations," said the Banten Police chief.
