Muslim pilgrims circumambulate around the Kaaba, the cubic building at the Grand Mosque, as they keep social distancing to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, during the minor pilgrimage, known as Umrah, in the Muslim holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Sunday, May 30, 2021.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - The Religious Affairs Ministry and House of Representatives Commission VIII are expected to decide today (2/6/2021) whether Indonesia will send pilgrims to Mecca this year.

The safety of the pilgrims and the limited preparation time must be the key considerations for the decision. Moreover, the Saudi Arabian government has not yet provided information on the countries that will be allowed send pilgrims and their quotas as a result of the limitations of the COVID-19 pandemic.
