Muslim worshippers gather to pray round the Kaaba, the holiest shrine in the Grand Mosque complex in Saudi Arabia\'s holy city of Mecca, to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, on May 13, 2021.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS – In less than two months before the peak of the haj pilgrimage this year, the government has yet to decide whether Indonesia will take part in the annual religious ritual. In order to provide certainty to the public, the government is urged to immediately make a decision regarding the sending of pilgrims to Mecca amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Saudi Arabian government, as reported in  the Saudi gazette website, will allow overseas  pilgrims to perform the haj this year under strict health protocols.  However, no decision has so far been made on the number of overseas pilgrims that would be allowed and the health procedures to be implemented.
