A general view taken on January 15, 2021 from the Mount of Olives shows Jerusalem\'s Old City with the Dome of the Rock in the al-Aqsa mosque compound.

The ceasefire between Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip, especially Hamas, and Israel has been welcomed not only by local residents. The world does so as well, with the hope that peace will be long-lasting in that land. Wherever the efforts to initiate peace are made, many circles have offered a reminder about the importance of Jerusalem\'s position.

Theoretically and spiritually, this city is holy to followers of three religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. The old city area is divided into four parts, namely the Islamic, Jewish, Christian and Armenian zones. In this area, Muslim, Christian and Jewish holy sites are located (see graphic on page 3). For a long time, various efforts have been made to resolve Jerusalem\'s status, including by promoting the region as a corpus separatum (separate entity) under an international mandate.
