Candidates for regent and deputy regent elected Sabu Raijua, Orient P Riwu Kaho and Thobias Uly.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - The legal status of the regent- elect of Sabu Raijua in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Orient P. Riwu Kore, who is a citizen of the United States, remains unclear. The Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is continuing to review the legal implications of his foreign citizenship, while the Home Ministry is awaiting confirmation from the Law and Human Rights Ministry on Orient’s citizenship.

Orient won the regional election for the Sabu Raijua regent, which was held on 9 Dec. 2020. When registering his candidacy, he attached a copy of an electronic ID card as proof of his Indonesian citizenship. On 1 Feb. 2021, the Sabu Raijua regional Bawaslu office received a letter from the US Embassy in Jakarta in response to their query seeking clarification about Orient\'s citizenship. The letter from the embassy confirmed that Orient is a US citizen.
