Loving work was an effective mantra for Fauzi Azim (59) as he carried out his role as a clock tower carer for 15 years. In his retirement, Fauzi is still devoted to guarding the ticking clock, called Jam Gadang, which has struck through three eras of Indonesian history.

The hands of Jam Gadang showed 3:10 on Saturday (7/11/2020). Ten minutes earlier, the clock tower’s bell had chimed three times. The bell rings every half hour. A single chime marks an intermediate half hour. The next half hour, the bell chimes according to the hour.
