Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about the news that the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) Legislation Body are drafting a bill on the third amendment to Law No. 23/1999 on Bank Indonesia (BI).

There are a number of points which, according to the text circulating in public, will be changed or replaced. From these points, there are two changes that I would like to discuss in this column. These points pertain to the status, duties and responsibilities inherent in most central banks across the world. All of which I consider very important for the existence and functioning of the central bank as a monetary authority.
