Monks join the Pradaksina procession around Sewu Temple in Prambanan, Klaten, Central Java, on Tuesday (29/5/2018) in commemoration of Waisak (Vesak), Buddha\'s Day of Enlightenment, which was themed "Harmony in Diversity for the Nation".
Waisak commemorates three sacred events: the birth, perfect enlightenment and the death of the Gautama Buddha.
The three events took place on the same day, the day of the full moon on the month of Waisak: The birth of a Buddhist candidate in 623 BC at Lumbini Park, Kapilavasthu, Nepal; the Buddhist Enlightenment of 588 BC, under the Bodhi tree, Bodhgaya, India and the death of Gautama Buddha in 543 BC at the age of 80 in Kusinara, India.
