The central government’s decision not to ban people from joining this year’s Idul Fitri mudik (exodus) has overwhelmed several regions in northern coastal areas west of Central Java with preparation work. Amid their responsibility to protect regional people from the threat of Covid-19, authorities still have to anticipate the entry of the virus potentially brought in by homecoming exodus travelers.

Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as interim Transportation Minister emphasized that so far, the government had only appealed to the public not to take part in mudik, instead of banning the exodus altogether (Kompas, 13/4/2020).
