Sugar and Salt Imports
The government has raised sugar and salt import quotas this year amid the low absorption of local farmers and the plan to achieve self-sufficiency in sugar production.

Salt ponds in Waruduwur village, Mundu district, Cirebon regency, West Java, seem to be neglected by their owners in 2019. The government has decided to import 3.7 million tons of industrial salt this year. Salt farmers hope that the imports will not disrupt the salt harvest next July.

The Office of the Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister increased the sugar import quota to 3.2 million tons from 2.8 million tons and the salt import quota to 2.9 million tons this year from 2.7 million last year.
