MALANG, KOMPAS -- Tourists are still flocking to beaches during the Christmas and New Year holiday, especially those located far from the Sunda Strait, such as Malang, East Java, and Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta.

Kompas found beach tourism management teams in these areas preparing disaster mitigation scenarios. To bolster disaster preparedness, they checked the safety infrastructure on beaches, including the installation of warning signs, evacuation routes and tsunami early warning detectors.
