A protest march initiated by the Movement for the Ratification of the Bill on the Elimination of Sexual Violence was held on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat toward Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Saturday (08/12/2018). This demonstration aims to up the pressure on the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government to swiftly pass into law the bill on the elimination of sexual violence. According to records of the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), Indonesia is experiencing an emergency of sexual violence since 2014.

Exactly 90 years ago, representatives of 30 women’s associations organized the Women’s Congress. A lot of progress has been achieved, a lot more must be done.

The first Indonesian Women’s Congress took place in Yogyakarta on Dec. 22, 1928. In 1953, President Sukarno declared Dec. 22 Mother’s Day, which is commemorated to this day.
