An ex-coal mine cavity is seen in the Bukit Soeharto Forest Park conservation area in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, on Friday (23/11/2018). The many ex-mining cavities left in the 67,000-hectare conservation area are believed to have been created by illegal coal mining activities.

At a glance, the photograph used in this daily on Tuesday (18/12/2018) was beautiful. Crystal clear water with a backdrop of white limestone and green pastures.

However, danger lurks in the visually refreshing location. The large hole full of crystal clear water is, in fact, an abandoned coal mine in Kutai Kartanegara regency, East Kalimantan. The mine was abandoned years ago and has not been rehabilitated.
