Solar Power Brings Water to Village

Solar panels have been installed on a hilltop in Banyumeneng hamlet, Giriharjo village, Panggang district, Gunung Kidul regency, Yogyakarta, to produce electricity to power a water pump on Thursday (31/8/2018). The solar water pump supplies hundreds of families in the hamlet with water during the dry season.

Banyumeneng is the hamlet’s name. It is a Javanese word meaning “still water”. There is a water spring nearby. Locals have not been able to benefit from it for decades as it is located underground and faraway from their houses. However, things have now changed.
