Gendon Subandono

With his long, salt-and-pepper hair and beard, Indonesia’s 2018 Asian Games paragliding head coach is easily recognizable. His hair and beard are the most striking features of Gendon “Get” Subandono, under whose guidance Indonesia paragliding athletes won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the Asian Games.

Gendon dove headfirst into paragliding in 1989 after several years exploring outdoor sports with his peers in Mapagama, the nature lovers’ club of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), including hiking, rock climbing and rafting.
